Dr Rori Fortuin is a born and bred Capetonian from a “sports mad” family, her first degree was a BSc in Sport Science from Stellenbosch University, followed by an Honours in Biokinetics. While completing her internship in East London, she made the switch to medicine, which for her offered a more meaningful and stimulating career path.
She completed her bachelors (MBBCh) degree in 2014 and her specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Wits University in 2022.
Seeing the variety of severe medical illnesses affecting patients at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, one of the largest, and busiest, hospitals in the world piqued her interest in management of high risk obstetrics at a critical care level.
“The exposure I received there afforded me the opportunity to upskill myself quite quickly by learning to work under immense pressure. This taught me to be flexible, to adapt to new situations and challenges.”
